The Hive
Purpose
In response to a growing number of children presenting with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, we established our own dedicated in-house SEMH provision in June 2024, known as The Hive. The Hive provides a supportive and nurturing environment designed to help children regulate, build confidence, and thrive both academically and socially.
Set-Up
The Hive is led day-to-day by Miss Granger (HLTA) and Miss Ahmet (TA), under the guidance of Miss Gairn - SENDCO.

-
Mornings:
-
Up to six children access The Hive each morning to complete their maths and English work in smaller groups, with tasks planned by their class teachers.
-
Children benefit from sensory breaks and can use continuous provision activities to support their regulation and focus.
-
This structure has significantly benefited both the children in The Hive—who are now completing their daily core work consistently—and their peers in class, who can learn with fewer interruptions.
-
-
Afternoons:
-
The Hive opens to up to 12 children for targeted intervention sessions.
-
Interventions focus on areas such as life skills, friendships, confidence and self-esteem, sensory circuits, and emotional regulation.
-
The offer is reviewed and adapted termly through discussions with the Inclusion Team and Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to meet the evolving needs of our pupils.

Access and Integration
Children from Year 1 to Year 6 can access The Hive. We do not provide full-time places, as it is important that children remain integrated within their class, continue to access teaching from their class teacher, and maintain a sense of belonging within their peer group.
The Hive staff have raised money to create their own sensory room attached to the community room:
Once a term the Hive staff take the children on a trip to give them different life experiences. This term we went ice-skating at Planet Ice.
Next time, we are hoping to go to the fire station!
