  4. Attendance

We believe that children should have their full entitlement to teaching and learning time and do not normally condone children arriving late or being collected early. However, we understand that there are occasions when children cannot attend during normal hours e.g. medical appointments. In these situations parents and carers must always bring in, or collect children from the main entrance rather than the classroom door. This is because registers are stored at the main office and we need to keep a clear record of who enters or leaves the premises in case of emergencies. Parents and carers will need to bear this in mind if they arrive late and are asked to take children to the main entrance.

We do expect children to arrive on time. If they are persistently late it is our responsibility to follow this up, as it can have such a negative impact on their learning. In these cases we work closely with families and with our local authority attendance officers.

We are very sorry but due to Government legislation we rarely condone holiday requests. We ask that families complete request forms when they wish to seek permission for holiday absences and we will respond to these in compliance with statutory requirements. Holiday request forms are available from the Family Information Centre in the main entrance lobby.

If a child is absent from school we would request notification by letter or telephone call. If a child is to attend the dentist or doctor or be absent for any other good reason, we ask that parents and carers let us know in advance. We always contact parents or carers if we become concerned about absence without information or authorization. Parents and Carers of children whose attendance is below 90% will be contacted on the first day of absence.
