Meet the Governors

Natalie Felton (Chair of Governors)

I have been a Governor at Drighlington Primary School for 5 Years and was elected Chair of the Governing Body in September 2017, a position that I’m very proud to hold. I sit on both of our committees, Resources and Teaching & Learning and I’m the responsible governor for Anti-bullying and Equalities. I truly believe that all children deserve the best possible education and that I have the skills to contribute to helping our school achieve the best results for them. In my spare time I like to spend time with my family. I am very passionate about books and love to read. 

 

Sue Jackson

I have two sons and three grandchildren. The spare time I have is dedicated to my family, to music, gardening and reading. My previous teaching experiences have included teaching age ranges from three to sixty three year olds, having worked in primary, secondary, special, youth opportunity and further education settings. My appointment as head teacher of Drighlington Primary School commenced September 2004. This is my third headship, meaning that I have been able to draw upon many years of experience. During my time at this school there has always been one key focus - create a safe and happy place where children can thrive and reach their full potential. I am passionate about this school and keen to promote quality first education for all children who attend.

 

Steve Housden

In July of 2017 the opportunity arose to apply to join the school’s board of governors and because I had now moved to part-time employment I felt that I had the time, to fully commit to the requirements of this important role. In addition I felt I had a number of work related skills that could support the school moving forward. I am currently a Non-Executive Director for a regeneration company and part-time consultant to them on business strategy and development. Prior to this I spent 10 years with the Construction Industry Training Board as Sector Manager for the North of England working on developing partnerships with LEP’s, Local Authorities and industry. Prior to this I worked in careers guidance field for nearly 30 years developing and implementing information, advice and guidance strategies that supported the delivery of the key activities supporting young people and adults into employment. I have lived in Drighlington for nearly 30 years and both my children attended school in Drighlington. I am keen to see that the school continues to be a positive, enjoyable and successful experience for all pupils.

 

Esme Brooke

I joined the Governors in February 2018 so I’m a newbie however I am familiar with how schools operate as I’ve worked in Education since 2003. I’m the Governor with responsibility for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and I’m on the Resources Committee as my background is as a School Business Manager. In my spare time I volunteer for British Eventing either dressage writing or fence judging at some beautiful venues. I have loved horses from being a small child. I went through my childhood loving every day at school and I would want my children to do the same. I am a sincere believer Education happens both at home and in school to make a fully rounded child. I became a Governor as I am passionate about children’s education and I feel every child’s experience of school should be a good one!  After all my school days were the best days of my life!

 

Sue Roberts

I was a teacher for 30 years until my retirement in 2012. My teaching experience covers 5-18 year olds and I have held varying posts at middle management level. I loved teaching particularly Maths, PE and Science.

I have been connected with Drighlington Schools for 29 years, first as a parent, then as a teacher and now as a Governor. I have been a Governor for the past 5 years and I am currently Chair of the Children, Teaching and Learning committee and SEND governor. I enjoy walking, swimming, reading and watching sport mainly Rugby League and Cricket. I also volunteer at the local library and in school. I live in the village and strongly believe that all the children deserve a school that supports them, encourages them, challenges them and allows them to reach their full potential. I feel that I have the skills and ethics to help the leadership team of the school to achieve these goals.

 

John Feaster

I am a solicitor and chartered tax advisor and have been based in the Morley/Drighlington area for over 10 years. My daughter is in key stage 1 at the school and my son started in nursery in September 2017. I am a strong advocate of broadly based early years education to inspire children in different disciplines (e.g. sport, music, drama, arts) and the particular challenge of engaging boys to enjoy learning at primary school age.  I strongly believe that the opportunity to socialise, learn new skills and build confidence though education in its wider sense is something which should be available to all children.  In my spare time I enjoy watching sport (football, cricket and darts), cooking and travel.

 

Rachel Dolman

I am a Mum of 3 with my youngest, currently in Year 3 at Drighlington PS. I have had a long and positive relationship with the school. This includes both volunteering in the classroom and working as a lunchtime assistant. I have 17 years experience of working in various law firms prior to taking a 6 year break to be a full time Mum.  I have for the last 3 years worked part time for a Charity as an accounts administrator. Drighlington has very positive values and a fantastic, if not enviable, community spirit. I truly believe that children deserve the best start in life with a positive education where their individual needs are met and potential fulfilled.  As importantly, the skills acquired are crucial to not only later academic achievements but to the development of social and important life skills.  As a parent governor, I am part of the Governing Body mix, along with teachers, school staff and community representatives. While the Governing Body acts as a unit, I believe that I now have a special role, trying to assess issues and decisions from the point of view of parents/carers and their families. This is not the same as representing an individual parent’s points of view; it is about making sure that the parent/carer perspective is always considered.

 

Tracey Taylor

I am married with 4 grown up children and enjoy spending time with my family whenever I get the chance.  I joined Drighlington Primary School as a co-opted Governor in September 2017. Prior to this I was a governor at another local primary school for 8 years so I have a good understanding of school life and how to challenge and support the school leaders. Working part time as a Mortgage Advisor, I feel I have the time to commit to this very demanding role, along with transferable skills that will benefit the school community. I have an analytical mind and I am well placed as the Governor with responsibility for pupil progress. I am committed to supporting the school to get the best outcomes for all pupils, as all children should have access to a solid education.

 

Sgt John Kehoe (Retired)

I joined the Governors in February 2018. I have gained lots of skills and previous experience that naturally led me to take up the challenge of being a school governor when the opportunity arose. I am currently the school site manager with responsibility for the safety of the children, staff and visitors along with the site security and upkeep. I am an armed forces veteran having served 21 years including 3½ years as a UN peacekeeper in the Middle East. I was a military training officer, training recruits in every aspect of army life, and a transport manager, with responsibility for budgets, staff and vehicles. I am, also, a trained negotiator with great familiarity of evacuation/lockdown through my forces and UN training. Additionally, I have 6 years’ experience of implementing ‘evacuation/lockdown’ at a primary school level in London. I am qualified to, and have worked within education, teaching Employability skills and working as an NVQ trainer and assessor in the post 16 sector. Furthermore, I have set up and run a Mentoring scheme for vulnerable young people prior to my move to Drighlington. I am looking forward to learning fresh skills and meeting new people as we (the governors) work as a team to support the headteacher as she endeavours to move the school ever forward.
